Subhendu Bandyopadhyay is disciple of “Sangeet Natak Academy” award winner Sitar maestro of Vishnupur gharana – Pt Manilal Nag. He has also been fortunate to have received rigorous “taalim” of various “taalas” or beats from Pandit Anil Palit, who is senior disciple of Pandit Kanthe Maharaj & Pandit Kishan Maharaj of Benaras gharana. Subhendu’s style of playing is in the ancient “Dhrupad aang” with slow “Alaap” and progressive “Jor”. The simple pure blissful musical aspects with varieties of “Gamaks”, “Meends” and rich taans with “layakari” are some of the distinctive features of this style along with rich tonal quality blended melodiously. He is accompanied by one of India’s leading Tabla player Kiran Yavagal son of renowned Pt. Ravindra Yavagal.
